Rimmel Crimson - Tutorial #2 PLUS a new lip product try on

Hi everyone and welcome to Thursday!! I hope your week has been good and your weekend will be even better.  We are taking Caleb to the zoo Saturday night.  We are meeting up with his best friend in the entire world, to trick or treat around the zoo.  This is Caleb's favorite thing to do for Halloween and because he only sees this friend about three times per year, he gets even more excited when we go.

Today I am bringing you tutorial #2 using the Rimmel Magnif'eye Crimson pallet.  I am still planning on doing a deep dark magenta and black look as well as a very light and easy daytime look.  But today I decided on this look because I found a new lip product that I was excited to try out, and I thought this eye look would go great with the lip color.  Let me know what you think....

First up I went in with color #3 and swept it all throughout my crease.  Be VERY careful with this color...it is very pigmented.  Just dip your brush in lightly and even tap off extra and start there.  Next, I decided to go with color #2 and deepen the outer V. I was going to use the dark brown (#1) but I didn't want to lose the red color in the look I was going for.  Then you want to blend it out.

I took a flat brush and packed on color #7 on the middle of my lid and overlapped the color #2 a bit.  This color is almost identical to my crease color, but it has shimmer in it.  Since I will be using a high shimmer color on the inner part of my lid, I wanted to make the middle have some shine to it as well.  So if you couldn't tell already, you will see that I used color #4 (the very golden shimmer) on my inner part of my lid and blended slightly over a bit.

I used Nyx I Have a Headache for my brow bone highlight.....this is the one I keep in my "daily drawer" because not all pallet have matte light colors that are good for the brow bone.  I do heavily recommend this Nyx single if your skin is about the same as mine.

I went in with a cream colored pencil in my lower water line for brightness.  Sometimes if you have a lot of reddish colors on your eye look, it can make you look tired, so I always recommend using either a cream colored pencil in the lower water line or even go with a colored liner such as dark brown or black.  But leaving it bare can sometimes make the eye look kind of "off".
So, the liner on the water line and then I use a small angle brush and color #3 to line the lower lash line.

My usual black liquid liner on top and tons of mascara.

Then I went in with Milani's Berry Amore for my blush.

Now, for the lips.  I found this Hard Candy Glitterazi Press and Play Glitter Reveal Lip Color in Dazzle.  I also bought a red one and I will use it in another tutorial later.  But anyways, it says it's a liquid lipstick.  After you apply it, you smoosh your lips together and it reveals the glitter.

While it didn't show the amount of glitter on the display case photo at the store, I did see some definite flakes of shimmer.  I'm more excited to try out the red one next.  But I thought this brownish nude color would look good with my reddish brown eye look.  And, that was all there was to my look.

What do you think?  How about the lips....do you see the glitter?  You can most certainly feel the glitter....which I am not a big fan of that, but I will see how it wears throughout the day.

So, that's all I have for today.  I hope you all have a wonderful day, and I will see you all again really soon.

Until next time, take care.

Rimmel Magnif'eyes Eyeshadow Pallet in Crimson

Welcome back and happy Tuesday to you!!

How are you doing on this beautiful Tuesday afternoon?  I'm doing quite well, actually.  The hubs has been helping get Caleb up and dressed in the morning, so I'm no longer yelling from the makeup room for Caleb to put his shoes on twenty times.  And that makes me one very happy mommy!!

Anyways, today I'm showing off a pallet I picked up last week from Walmart.  It's the Rimmel Crimson pallet.

It's all pinks and red colors....I love colors like these.  I think pink and reds are so stunning on the eyes.  Pink is my utmost favorite color, so I'm obviously smitten over this little pallet.  So, I thought that for this week we are gonna play with the pinks.  Let's hop to our first look....I hope you enjoy.

I just love, love, LOVE this look.  It's so simple and easy to recreate.  I have already worn this look three times over the past week and just can't get enough of it.

But anyways, you will want to first put the color #9 all throughout the crease.  It looks like a bubble gum pink in the pan, but sheared out in the crease, it's a perfect rosy blending color.  It's also matte, and I love a good matte in the crease.  Next we go to up a couple of colors to #7 and put that all over the outer half of the lid and blend it up into the outer V of the eye.  This is a satin finish color.  So it's not matte, but its not shimmer either.  It's a beautiful color and I love the depth it gives, without going all dark red.

I then went in with color #12 on a flat brush and then spritzed it with setting spray and wiped it on the first half of my lid and slightly overlapping the color #7.  It will make a gradient effect on your lid and it's stunning!!

Then I went in with a cream pencil liner in my water line.  I went back in with color #7 and a pencil brush to go along my lower lash line with.  While you could stop there, because I was going to be lining my upper lash line with black liquid liner, I wanted to balance out the bottom lash line.  So I went in with color #1 and a very precise angled brush and lined my lower lash line with it as well.  You could use the pencil brush for this also, but make sure to keep it right on the lash line so you don't lose the pink color you already put down.

I did my black liquid liner on my top lash line and coated the lashes in mascara.  My blush is the Milani in Dolce Pink and my lipstick is the Loreal Infalliable in Enduring Berry.

And there it is....I told you it was an easy look.  I just adore pinks on the eyes and lips...don't you?  It makes me so happy when I see pinks used on the eyes and lips...you just can't be depressed when you have a magenta eye and lip.  :)

Well, that's all I have for today.  I hope you enjoyed and will come back and visit me again here at 523.  I will be back again, soon with another Crimson pallet tutorial.  I am currently working on a very bold and smokey look where I pull in a black eye shadow for my look....but you will have to check back again to see it.

I hope you all have a wonderful Tuesday and I will see you all again really soon.  Until next time, take care.

Which eye cost $49 and which eye cost $9....can you tell the difference?

Happy Monday!!

I'm so happy to have you here with me at 523 today!! I have such an exciting post....I just love these types of post, so that's where my excitement comes from...but today I'm showing you a makeup look I did.  On one eye I used the Urban Decay Naked 2 pallet and on the other I used the Maybelline The Nudes pallet.  I will also be giving you a tutorial on how I did the eye look on the Maybelline side so you can recreate it, if you want.  Let's get started...

First thing is to determine which eye look is the Urban Decay 2 that cost a hefty $49.  Can you tell?  The eye on the right? or the eye on the left?  Look closely....

What are your thoughts?  Are you ready to see which eye is the $49 and which eye is the $9?  Ok, here it is.

How'd you do? Did you guess the correct eye?  Oh, how much I adore these types of post!!

So, what do you think of the eye look?  I wore it to Caleb's school carnival this weekend and then we went out with a bunch of friends afterwards.  It was such an easy look to accomplish and I really thought it was so beautiful.

Ok, so...how'd I accomplish this look....

First up I wanted to make sure the shadows really showed up on my lids.  When you have a medium skin tone color, these taupe colored eye shadows can be muted out quite a bit so my best tip is to use a lighter concealer and cover the eyelid with it.  I then use a translucent powder to set it with also.

Next I went in with the taupe color #1 on the Maybelline pallet (Tease on the Naked 2) and swept it all throughout the crease.  I just gradually added more and more, until it was built up to the intensity that I wanted.  I also applied this to the outer third of my lid.

Next with my finger I used color #2 on Maybelline pallet (Bootycall on the Naked 2) and packed it on the inner 2/3rds of my lid...allowing it to get right up and blend with the first color.

I used a black pencil liner to line my lower lash line....heavily.  And then went back with the color #1 (Tease) and smudged it all out, using a pencil brush.

I applied black liquid liner to my top lash line and made a nice wing with it.  Then I applied mascara, curled my lashes and then to top it all off, I applied false lashes.  These are the Demi Baby Wispies by Ardell.

I used Milani's Tea Rose blush and then went in with Born With It by Maybelline for my lips to give it the light baby pink.  I think the lips and cheek went perfectly with this eye look.

I used the zodiac Air highlight from Wet N Wild on my inner tear duct and the tops of my cheek bones to highlight.

And there is the final look.

What did you think?  You don't have to use false eyelashes, but I wanted a very heavy black lash to help emphasize the more neutral colors on my eyes.  I think it strikes a perfect balance of glam.

This look was very simple to create.  I think the only thing that makes it a little more challenging is if you aren't too familiar with liquid liner or false lashes.  If you don't want to use black liquid liner, you can define your top lash line with an angle brush that has been spritzed with setting spray (or water) and dipped into the black shadow on the Maybelline pallet.  You then will just run it across your upper lash line, staying as close as possible to the lash line.  This will give the upper lash line a more dramatic effect without the hassle of liquid liner.  Make sure to curl those lashes and go heavy on the mascara to make your lashes really show up.

Well, that's all I have for Monday, I hope you enjoyed and will come back and visit me again here at 523!! I will see you all again really soon.  Until next time, take care.

Covergirl Chocolate Scented Bronzer Review

Hi sweet friends!! And happy Friday!!

The hubs and I had our first parent / teacher conference for the year, this morning.  Caleb's not in trouble or anything, the school requires it to receive the students first report card for the year.  So anyways, we got a stellar report on Caleb!! He's doing so well in school...we couldn't be more proud of his hard work, and his teacher feels the same.  I was just bubbling with excitement after our conference.  :)

Well, I don't think you came here to talk about Caleb's grades (even though he got a 98 on his math for the 6 weeks).....you are here to talk makeup.  So let's get to it.

Today I'm reviewing and showing you a during application of how I used the Covergirl Chocolate Contour pallet.

Let's look at swatches first...

It contains two VERY shimmery highlight shades. One very pink and one very golden color.  Then there is a cool toned contour color.  The contour color appears matte for the most part, but there just seems to be something in it....nothing glowy, but just a......sheen of some sort.  It's the slightest bit of sheen, and I can't see it on my face or in the pan, but I can see it in the swatch.  It's very unique, that is for sure.

Now, I am a light to medium skin toned girl.  So, this contour is a great match for me.

However, the highlight shades are a bit more trickier to work with on my color of skin.  The pink looks really pretty and wearable, but the gold.....well, I'm just too light skinned for the golden color to look good on me.

So I went with the pink.  After swatching the two highlight shades, I really thought that even the pink would be too dark on my skin.  I was already thinking of it as being a blush topper, but when I blended it out, it turned out beautiful.....at least, I thought so.

The contour color is phenomenal!!  I think it's a perfect color for me! I like that it has a slight sheen to it, whereas it helps to keep it from looking muddy on the skin.  BUT, watch out....this has some serious pigment to it.

The first time I used the contour, I had to wipe off my makeup and start over.  There was no amount of blending or toning it down with powder that would help the dark streak under my cheek bone.   But that's my fault for assuming.......now, when it's applied lightly, it has a beautiful look to it.

Below is where I have actually applied it lightly.

Now, for the smell....as you know we have plenty of "scented" products in our little world of makeup.  At first it was usually contained to the high end makeup products, but our drugstores have been stepping it up in scented makeup.

So, this one DOES smell like cocoa powder.  It's not the sweet smell like the Too Faced Chocolate Bar pallet, its more of actual un-sweetened cocoa powder smell.  I'd call it more semi-sweet chocolate smell.  :)

But the scent doesn't really bother me much.  I'm not one who is sensitive to scents, so I'm perfectly fine with the smell.  But, if you are sensitive, beware, because this is a very strong cocoa powder scent.

My overall thoughts:

I think this pallet is worth it for the contour alone on me.  If you are too much darker, you probably won't see too much contouring with the depth of this color.  But I think that if you are medium skin toned or lighter, it works out beautifully.

The highlights are beautiful and as you can see they swatch very well and blend out nicely on the skin.

The pink color is the one I use as my actual highlight on my face, and I think is so pretty.  The golden color, while I don't use it on my skin because of how dark it is....I do use it as an eye shadow.  This brings me to my next comment.

These colors are perfect for a neutral eye look.  The golden color is gorgeous on the lid and then with the contour color, blended out into the crease.  This makes such an easy and effortless look, that really looks beautiful on the eyes and it's a very classic look.

So my overall thoughts are that I really do like this pallet and will continue using it.

Well, I think that's all I have to say about the pallet.  I hope you found it helpful or interesting, and will come back and visit me again here at 523.

I will be back next week with more makeup talk.  Until next time, take care.

Burgundy Mascara - Take 2 - Did I find a winner?

As you may have remembered previously, I tried out the Loreal Burgundy mascara and it was an utter failure.  It's a great mascara, but it still looks black and not burgundy in the least bit.  Today, I am bringing you another try at using a burgundy mascara from Hard Candy.  It's still a bit hard to see the color in the photos, but it comes out truly burgundy on your lashes in real life.

This was the look I was hoping for from Loreal, but I got it at a cheaper price with the Hard Candy.  So it's a most definite win for me.....although I don't know what I'm now going to do with the Loreal mascara.

Anyways, today I also wanted to show you the look I used to pair with the colored mascara and how I achieved it.  I am going to be using the Wet N Wild Rose in the Air and the Hard Candy Metal Glaze in burgundy along with the Hardy Candy 1000 Lashes Mascara in burgundy.   I hope you enjoy...

First thing to do is start with the transition color and sweep it all throughout your crease.

Next take the brown-ish red color and deepen the crease a bit with the color.  You will be applying it in the lower part of the crease.

In the outer V, deepen it up with the dark brown.

Now comes the fun part....using the Hard Candy Metal Glaze in Burgundy, pat it on the top of the lid from the inner corner towards the outer V.  Stopping right as you get to the dark brown color.  You can pat a little of the dark brown on the edge of the metal glaze to make it blend together in that area of your lid.

I then went into the pinkish color and applied that all throughout my crease, topping the brownish red color from before.  The reddish brown color is too red and the pink is too pink so mixing them together gave me a perfect match of red, pink and brown, that I wanted to have my look come out as.

I did NOT line my upper lash line with black liquid liner....instead I lined the upper water line with black pencil liner and the lower water line with black pencil liner.

Back into the dark pink color, I used it on a pencil brush to smudge out the black pencil on the lower lash line.

I decided to highlight my brow bone with the yellowish white color in the pallet.

Next I went in with the burgundy mascara, blush Maybelline Fit Me Blush in Wine and my lipcolor Maybelline Mauve Mania.

And that completed my look.

What did you think?  Do you like colored mascaras?  How about the blues and purple colored mascaras.  Does colored mascara bring you back to Jr. High? It sure does me.....I remember matching my nails and mascara to my softball uniform during those Jr. High days.  While orange was a great nail color, it didn't prove to be a great mascara.  Have you ever tried orange mascara?  Let me know your thoughts in the comment section below.

That's all the makeup talk I have for today.  I hope you found it fun and enjoyable.  I will be back again for some more makeup goodies really soon.  Until next time, take care.

Maybelline Soda Pop Pallet - Tutorial #3

Welcome back to 523!!  It's a cold and rainy day here.....I think we just skipped over Fall and went straight on to winter in North Texas....ugh.

Well, anyways, today I'm bringing you another tutorial from the Maybelline Soda Pop pallet.  So instead of talking weather, let's talk makeup.

Okie, dokie, first up you want to take Cherry on Top and put it all in the crease with a fluffy brush.

Next, take the Blue Raspberry and apply it to the outer V and work it over into the crease.

On a flat brush take Grape Pop and pat it all over the lid, and make it go right up to the Blue Raspberry color.

Next, take Cherry on Top and then pat it in the middle of your lid.  The reason I wanted the Grape Pop all over the lid and then Cherry on Top...um, on top of it, is because I wanted those colors to mix into each other on the middle of the lid.  I like the way they look layered.

I then patted Tonic in my inner corner for some highlighting.

I applied my black liquid liner on my top lash line and a cream liner in my lower water line and then used Grape Pop on my lower lash line and topped it off with multiple coats of mascara.

For my blush I wanted to keep it neutral so I used Milani's Bellisimo Bronze and for my lips I used Loreal's Balm in Tender Mauve.  I love the pink-y nude color of my lips with this more colorful eye look.  I think the pink in the lips gives it enough to not make them disappear but subtle enough to not compete with my eye look.

But there's my completed look.....what do you think?

I'm so happy you came to visit me today.  I hope you liked the tutorial and will feel inspired to bring out some color in your looks as well.  My next post I have for you is on another burgundy mascara.....after trying out the Loreal burgundy last week and being very disappointed by the outcome....or lack there of.  I was on a mission to find a burgundy mascara that actually showed up and look great.  So tomorrow I'll reveal what that mascara is and the look I paired with it.

I hope you will come back to visit me again here at 523.  I will see you all soon, so until next time, take care.
